Property Taxes
Something seems very wrong when the wealthy and big corporations get large property tax cuts while the rest of us have seen a big increase in our property taxes. Based on market valuations, the Fergus County portion of our Lewistown 2023 residential property taxes went up 33% and the city portion increased up to 19%. I support the equalization of residential, commercial, utilities, agricultural land, and forest properties. Public Education
Per student funding has not kept up with inflation in Montana since the pandemic. With declining enrollment, especially in rural schools, and the increase in the cost of living Montana schools are not keeping up. Teachers in Montana rank 44th to the lowest paid in the US depending on the sources you look up.
Clean air, water, and soil
I want to see our children and grandchildren have a future of clean water and air, less erosion, higher crop yields, and healthier food in Montana.
Services
We have wonderful folks who provide us with services in Montana that make our life safer, healthier, and better: police, fire, medical, libraries to name a few. I support living wages and good working conditions for all.
Agriculture
For our rural communities to thrive, Montana needs local ranches to stay locally owned when possible. Healthy land use contributes to healthy communities.
